Nearly everywhere outdoors here allows a leashed dog, so this list is narrower than that: places with the water, shade, and room that actually make it worth loading them into the car.

  1. Greenway FarmPark · HixsonThe only genuine off-leash area on this list, with creek access and flat miles. If your dog needs to actually run, start here.
  2. Stringer's RidgeHike · North ShoreThree miles of shaded in-town loop. Easy grade, quick to reach, and forgiving on older dogs.
  3. Glen Falls TrailHike · Lookout MountainShaded almost the whole way down the CCC stonework, with water at the bottom in the week after a good rain.
  4. Enterprise South Nature ParkPark · OoltewahSolitude and long, quiet miles. The one to pick when you want to walk without meeting anybody.
  5. Sunset RockHike · Lookout MountainFine with a dog, but keep them leashed near the edge. The ledge is unfenced and the drop is real.
